Recent news about Walmart cutting corporate jobs across North America will have no impact on stores or the company’s operations in Canada, the company says.
“This doesn’t impact our Walmart Canada operations,” said Walmart Canada, which is headquartered in Mississauga, in an email.
Reported in The Star, Walmart is cutting hundreds of jobs across North America, and is shifting staff from smaller offices to the company’s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.
As part of this transition, the company is closing its global tech hub in Toronto, which is one of a number of Walmart tech hubs around the world, The Star reports, but that office is not connected to Walmart Canada, and the cuts there won’t impact operations at the Mississauga headquarters.
Walmart’s Toronto tech hub opened in 2022. The number of jobs being impacted by this news wasn’t provided.
Across Canada, Walmart has more than 400 stores and distribution centres and employs more than 100,000 people.
