‘We are very concerned:’ Police seek 3 suspects after Toronto man abducted in Woodbridge

York Regional Police homicide unit investigators say they are searching for three suspects in connection with an alleged kidnapping of a Toronto businessman early Friday morning.

Officers said 57-year-old Roberto Marchioni was leaving his place of business at 119 Westcreek Dr., north of Langstaff Road and east of Weston Road, when he was confronted by two suspects wearing dark clothing and masks at around 2:15 a.m.

It’s alleged the suspects assaulted and forced Marchioni into a grey 2020 Honda CRV LX and fled the area on Langstaff Road before getting onto Highway 400. Investigators said a black Dodge Ram pickup also seen in the area was also involved in the abduction.

“We believe this is not a random event and we believe that Mr. Marchioni was targeted. Our priority is to locate Mr. Marchioni. We are very concerned for his well-being and so is his family,” Insp. Paolo Fiore told reporters Saturday afternoon.

He said part of the homicide unit’s mandate is to investigate kidnappings and missing person reports when “circumstances indicate a strong possibility of foul play, and we believe that fits [their] criteria” for their probe into the incident.

Fiore said officers were called at around 6:20 a.m. on Friday after Marchioni’s black Range Rover was found with his personal property inside.

He said it was too early to determine if the suspects and the victim knew each other. Fiore added the victim was known to police officers, but he didn’t elaborate on the connection.

A more detailed description of the suspects was not immediately available.

Meanwhile, Fiore said officers are continuing to search for surveillance and dash-cam video to help track down the vehicles used.

He asked anyone who was in the area of Highway 7 on the south, Weston Road on the west, Rutherford Road on the north and Highway 400 on the east between 1 and 6 a.m. to check their vehicle or building camera systems to see if the wanted vehicles were seen.
