Watch: Justin Trudeau, Diljit Dosanjh hail Canada’s diversity in pre-show meeting at Toronto’s Rogers Centre
Sharing his experience of the meeting Trudeau said he stopped by the Rogers Centre to wish Diljit “good luck” before his show. “Canada is a great country — one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a super power,” he wrote in a post on X.
The meeting came amid strained ties between India and Canada following Trudeau’s claims last year that agents of the Indian government were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023 outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.
New Delhi has since then outrightly rejected the claims as “absurd and motivated” while accusing Ottawa of providing a safe haven to extremist elements indulging in anti-India activities. India consistently stressed that the primary concern between the two nations is Canada’s tolerance of pro-Khalistan groups operating freely on its soil.
