Video shows shocking moment of vehicle striking cop in Toronto in auto theft investigation – NOW Toronto

York Regional Police have released a shocking video of a cop that was struck by a suspect vehicle during an investigation in Toronto last month.

On Apr. 30, York Regional Police (YRP) located two stolen vehicles in the area of Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive.

With the help of the Canine Unit, police arrested two suspects. One suspect was arrested after a short foot pursuit, while a second entered a vehicle and drove into an officer and police vehicle, according to police.

The suspect ultimately crashed the vehicle into a nearby building and fled on foot, police said.

“Thankfully, the officer was not seriously injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and was released a short time later,” police said in a news release on May 3.

YRP released a video of the incident, where the vehicle is seen striking the officer.

Eighteen-year-old Ahmed Abdul-Wasee, of Toronto, is facing 11 charges, including Theft of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.

The outstanding suspect is described as male, standing at approximately five-foot-eight, with brown skin, a thin build and black hair.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact YRP’s Auto Cargo Theft Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6651, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS, or at www.1800222tips.com.
