Toronto starts the Aubiel era at East Canton

EAST CANTON — The Jaret Aubiel era is set to begin.

The Toronto football team will open the 2024 season against East Canton at 7 p.m. Friday night on Hornet Field at Foltz Stadium.

“We are really looking forward to getting going,” first-year Toronto head coach Jaret Aubiel said. “We started preparing for East Canton on Friday. We are anxious to show what we can do.”

The Red Knights shut out the Hornets, 34-0, in last season’s opener at Clarke Hinkle Field.

“I think they have 17 starters back,” Aubiel said. “East Canton is a well-coached team. Coach Miller has been there a long time. It is a great opportunity to go against his team in the first week of the season.”

The boys from the Gem City know what to expect going into the game.

“They look similar,” Aubiel said. “They have some wrinkles on offense and on defense. We are excited to see what we can do.”

The Red-and-White are focusing on themselves as they prepare to open the season.

“We need to have a good week of practice,” Aubiel said. “We need to have a good week of practice, and we need to do our jobs. We need to do our assignments. If we do that, hopefully, we will come out on top.”

Toronto is preparing for the atmosphere it will face Foltz Stadium.

“We play music at practice,” Aubiel said. “We play it loud to simulate what our offense will face Friday night.”

The regular season for football is only 10 games long giving each game an extra importance. The Red Knights are looking to get off to a good start this season.

“It is very important,” Aubiel said. “In high school football, you only have 10 opportunities to play regular season games. It is of upmost importance to start the season off with a win.”
