Toronto police officer dies while on duty

A Toronto police officer has died while on duty Thursday morning.

Toronto police say they are currently in the process of notifying the family.

It’s unknown at this point how the officer died, but Toronto police say preliminary information suggests the cause of death may be medical.

The officer has not been identified.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with the officer’s loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” read the statement.

Premier Doug Ford also offered his condolences in a social media post.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear that a Toronto police officer died while on duty earlier today. My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the officer, as well as all members of the Toronto Police,” read his statement.
