TORONTO — Oak Glen head coach Doug Taylor said he was worried about Toronto quarterback Zeb Kinsey all week leading up to Thursday’s game.

It turns out the veteran coach had good reason to be worried.

The Red Knights senior needed just a half of football and part of one series in the third quarter to break a pair of school records in leading Toronto to a dominant 53-13 victory at Clarke Hinkle Field.

“Kinsey, Kinsey Kinsey, I worried about that kid all week,” Taylor said. “He’s got a heck-of-an arm and he just picked us apart. We just can’t cover their speed, we’re not going to see another team like them. Sometimes they made plays in decent coverage, too, we would have them covered and they’d go over the top and make a nice play. They have a lot of skill and we knew it was going to be tough to match up.”

Kinsey completed 13 of 14 passes for 435 yards and seven touchdowns, surpassing the prior school single game marks of 425 yards and five touchdowns.

He spread the ball to five different receivers, hitting four different targets for scores, while averaging more than 33 yards per completion. His scoring tosses went for 71, 15, 38, 53, 47 and 18 yards.

He went 11 of 12 for 395 yards and all seven scores in the first half. He completed his first two passes in the third quarter to surpass the record and gave way to the jayvee offense.

“The goal all week was to come out of the gates on fire,” Toronto head coach Jaret Aubiel said. “This is a big bounce back for us.”

Aiden Filby was on the receiving end of three of the touchdowns, finishing with 120 yards on four catches. Brody Winters hauled in a 71-yard score on the Red Knights (4-1) first play from scrimmage and finished with 113 yards on just two catches and Mason Marchbank hauled in three passes for 124 yards and two scores, including a 53-yarder.

“We have weapons on offense,” Aubiel said. “It was good to get a lot of guys touches, that is something we wanted to do this week.”

After the Knights had taken a 22-0 lead after one quarter, Oak Glen put a drive together and got on the board with a 2-yard Josh Maher run that was set up by a 51-yard Evan Clouston (110 yards on eight carries) run inside the red zone, but any thoughts of the Golden Bears (0-4) getting back in the game were short lived.

Kinsey hit Marchbank for a 53-yard score on the next play to recapture the momentum right away and Toronto was off to the races from there. Kinsey threw three more touchdowns before the break to set up a running clock in the second half.

“That was a good moment for us to get right back on track,” Aubiel said. “We finished the game well from there.”

The Golden Bears did rack up 204 rushing yards and moved the ball at times, but just could not stop the Knights nor score enough to keep up with them.

“We did move the ball well at times, we had a couple nice runs,” Taylor said. “When we’re on, we can move the ball. We got a first down early and turned it over and they scored a touchdown on the first play, so that didn’t help. We didn’t have an answer for their big D-lineman (Andy Silverthorn). Hat’s off to him, he’s a good player.

“We’ll go back and look at the film and work on some things. We’ve got some more tough games coming up.”

Oak Glen got a 24-yard Clouston scoring run early in the fourth quarter and Toronto’s Patrick McEwen added a 1-yard run late in the final quarter to cap the scoring.
