Police ID man found dead after North York shooting | CBC News
Toronto police are looking for witnesses after a man died following a shooting in North York on Monday morning, police said.
The victim was found at Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West around 7:30 a.m., Toronto police said. Police have identified him as Anthony McBean, 42, of Toronto.
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, Duty Insp. Todd Jocko said. He said police believe McBean may have been shot earlier in the morning.
Toronto police’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation, Jocko said.
There is no suspect information at this time.
Anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area is asked to contact investigators or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
Gun violence becoming a pattern, locals say
People in the community told CBC Toronto Monday that gun violence is a common occurrence in the neighbourhood.
“This is not the first time for this area,” said Tracey Brereton, as she pointed to five spots around the intersection where she said other shootings had taken place. “It’s just too close to home.”
Brereton said she’s been in the area for nearly 10 years, and has stopped walking late at night if she needs to get anywhere, saying she’s too nervous.
“If I’m going anywhere, I take an Uber,” she said. “But it’s my area. Why should I do that?”
Logan Symynyshen’s family owns a restaurant near the intersection, and he says they worry for their safety.
“My dad, he’s always out and about so it might have been him,” he said. “And we have family who live here. It might have been anyone of them.”
Symynyshen says gun violence is hurting business too.
“We do our best to make this a nice little spot,” he said. “But these crimes and these murders keep happening here.”
