The sex scandal that made national headlines unfolded during the watch of former La Vergne Police Department Chief Burrel “Chip” Davis.

Now, Davis has been unanimously “decertified” by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission, according to WTVF-TV News. As a result, he will never wear a badge in Tennessee again — and probably not anywhere else.

“You’re a police officer 24/7 and you’re a chief 24/7,” one of the commissioners said of the decision. “I think your conduct was very unbecoming.”

Indeed.

At the centre of Davis’ demise is his demure former officer, the much-married Maegan Hall, who in addition to carrying on an affair with a sergeant and engaging in trysts with other cops, engaged in a threesome with one officer and his wife at a Girls Gone Wild-themed hot tub party.

While Davis was never accused of partaking in sex with Hall, he was aware of the rookie officer’s sexploits. He admitted receiving raunchy photos of Hall in action from his buddy the sergeant.

He also frequently joked about Hall’s outlandish behaviour.

Sgt. Ty McGowan sent the top cop sexxx-rated snapshots of Hall.

He messaged the chief: “She has a tight little a– though.”

The boys-will-be-boys chief responded: “Yup.”

When the scandal was exposed, the officers involved — including Davis and Hall — lost their jobs. She later filed a lawsuit charging she had been “sexually groomed” by the carnal cops. Earlier this year, she settled with the city for $500,000.

In turn, Davis sued the city for racial discrimination. His suit was kicked to the curb because he missed the deadline for filing it.

In his showdown with the commission, Davis downplayed his role.

“I didn’t sexually harass anybody for receiving a picture,” he said. “If you go back and look at the other transcripts, they will tell you that [Hall] was sending pictures to him and other people saying if you want a booty call, hit her up.”

Davis added that he had been pals with McGowan for more than 16 years.

“These are text messages between two friends that were not on city phones,” he said. “So, did I let my hair down and have trust in a friend? Yes. Did they use it against me? Yes. Am I going to be responsible and accountable for my text messages? Yes.

“Was it a reflection of my job? No, because I did my job.”

One of Davis’ “jokes” was in connection to a 13-minute video that allegedly featured Hall masturbating. That too was shared among other male cops.

According to Hall’s lawsuit, the hookups began after she had an affair with Sgt. Lewis Powell. She claimed other cops then targeted her for sex.

“I know what most people are saying,” she said in March 2023. “You know, ‘You could’ve said no.’ I get it. But my response to them is I did say no and [Powell] wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eventually, I gave in from pressure.”

Her lawyer Wesley Clark said Hall was a “piece of meat” thrown into a pack of wolves.

“Maegan wasn’t looked at like a rookie cop to be trained and promoted,” Clark said. “She was looked at like a piece of meat to be sexualized and exploited.”

Hall blamed her own troubled marriage for her outlandish behaviour. Her hubby wasn’t into swinging.
