One woman charged, one wanted in ‘Hustlers’ style fraud in Toronto

Toronto Police say one woman has been charged and a second is wanted in a fraud investigation reminiscent of the 2019 film Hustlers

On Aug. 16, shortly before noon, police responded to reports of fraud in the Dundas Street West and University Avenue area.

Police say the victim met the two female suspects on Leolist, an online escort service.

The victim then met with the suspects in person, where they gave the victim an undisclosed pill to ingest which knocked the victim unconscious for an extended period of time, according to police.

The suspects then stole the victim’s credit and debit cards along with other valuables and spent approximately $20,000.

On Aug. 20, police arrested and charged Katie Doyle, 24, of British Columbia.

Police are searching for the second suspect identified as 25-year-old  Alexandra Mellino, of Alberta.

“The suspect is described as female, with long brown hair and wearing all black,” police said in a news release on Tuesday. An image of the wanted suspect has been released.

Boyle is facing numerous charges, including charged with Sexual Assault, Take Intimate Photo Without Consent, Voyeurism, Administer Noxious Thing with Intent, Fraud andPossession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, among others.

Mellino is wanted for similar charges.

Hustlers, which stars Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, follows the true story of a group of New York City strippers who orchestrated a scheme to drug and steal from wealthy Wall Street clients who frequented the club where they worked.
