N.S. couple wins $2.5M over the holidays

A Cole Harbour, N.S., couple got a sizeable stocking stuffer over the holidays: $2.5 million.

Heather and Peter Bryan won the Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot draw on Dec. 21, according to a news release from Atlantic Lottery.

“We were watching the movie, and he (Peter) came and stood in front of us,” Heather Bryan said in the release. “His face was ashen. His eyes were glassy, and I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ And he said, ‘We won the lottery.’

“I said, ‘What? How much?’ He said, ‘All of it.’”

Peter Bryan said he’d learned someone in Dartmouth had won the money, so he checked his ticket. Before the family claimed the prize, they stored the ticket in a cookie tin.

“We just freaked out when he told us and then it was just chaos and excitement at that point,” Heather Bryan said. “My daughter and I said, ‘We should be jumping around,’ so then we jumped around.”

The couple plans to use the money to travel, support their family and give back to the community.
