More heavy rain in store for GTA, forecast says | CBC News

Just weeks after heavy rains caused flooding problems in the Greater Toronto Area, the region is set to get soaked again, Environment Canada says.

The agency has issued a special weather statement for areas including Toronto, Mississauga, Oshawa, Oakville, Vaughan and Brampton, calling for rainfall amounts up to 50 millimetres starting Thursday night.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the statement reads.

Last month, parts of the city saw more than 100 millimetres of rainfall in a torrential downpour that flooded homes, streets and major highways including the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway.

At the height of that storm, 167,000 Toronto Hydro customers were without power.
