Man dead in balcony fall after ‘interaction’ with police

A 21-year-old Toronto man is dead after falling from a balcony at a high rise as York Regional Police were executing a search warrant Monday morning.

Police executed a search warrant in the area of Evans Ave. and Sherway Gardens Rd. in Toronto at 5 a.m.

Police say they had an “interaction” with a man who suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating.

SHOTS FIRED AT BUSINESS: COPS

Toronto Police are investigating after shots were fired from a vehicle at a business early Monday morning.

At 1:49 a.m., police were called to the area of Eglinton Ave. and Bathurst St. for a firearm discharge.

Police found evidence a gun had been shot at a business.

There were no injuries.

HANDGUN, STOLEN VEHICLE SEIZED IN DURHAM REGION

Durham Regional Police seized a dangerous handgun with a 9 mm overcapacity drum magazine and a stolen vehicle as a man tried to flee from being arrested in Oshawa.

On Saturday, at 9:30 p.m., police attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver fled.

Air1 located the vehicle parked a short distance away but the driver fled on foot.

After a foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody and a loaded handgun with a prohibited overcapacity drum magazine was seized.

Police say the vehicle the suspect had was stolen.

Quinton Campbell, 20, of Oshawa, has been charged with possess loaded firearm, possess firearm no licence, dangerous operation, occupy motor vehicle with firearm, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and fail to comply with release order.

DURHAM COPS SEEK SUSPECT IN KNIFEPOINT ROBBERY

Durham Regional Police are looking for a suspect accused of robbing a Clarington gas station at knife point.

On Sunday at 10:10 p.m., police were called to a Esso Gas Station at 1451 Regional Hwy. 2.

Police said man entered the gas station wielding a knife and allegedly demanded cash from an employee.

The suspect fled when customers entered the gas station.

The employee wasn’t injured.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 25 years of age, 5-foot-10, with blonde hair and a medium build.

He was wearing a dark face mask, a black shirt, red and black pants and black shoes.

SCHOOL-ZONE SPEEDSTER NABBED

Slow down. That’s the message York Regional Police put out after this arrest.

Police said officers pulled over a driver just after 8 a.m. on Monday morning after the driver was clocked going 102 km/h in a 50 km/h school zone.

The driver was issued a 30-year licence suspension and the vehicle was towed and impounded at the owner’s expense for 14 days.

The driver was also charged with stunt driving.

5 CHARGED IN FIREARMS PROBE

Toronto Police have charged five people in a firearms investigation.

After an investigation, police were given search warrants for a residence and motor vehicle in Toronto where police seized two loaded handguns and a loaded assault rifle.

On Sept. 3, three adults and a youth were arrested in the area of Kennedy Rd. and Lawrence Ave.

Jushaii Reid, 21, and Justice Townsend, 21, both of Toronto, Trayvon Reid, 23, of Ajax, and a unnamed youth were all charged with possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and other offences.

Dumari Ewart, 24, of Toronto, was also arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and seven other offences.
