A 33-year-old Toronto man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a woman in the city’s east end on Sunday, police say.
The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. at a residence in the area of Danforth and Jones avenues, police said.
In a news release Monday, police identified Alisha Brooks, 34, as the victim.
Responding officers found Brooks outside the residence with gunshot wounds. She was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The accused was arrested at the scene and a firearm was also recovered, according to police.
“The victim and suspect were known to each other,” police said in the release.
The accused was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Monday morning.
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact Toronto police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
