LABOUR DAY: Will No Frills, Metro, FreshCo, Farm Boy, Costco, LCBO, The Beer Store and other locations in Ontario be open Sept. 2?

Labour Day falls on Monday, Sept. 2, and many grocery and retail operators will be closed. However, some will remain open for shoppers with reduced operating hours.

Groceries

A spokesperson from Empire (Sobeys) confirmed several Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo and Farm Boy locations across Ontario will be open on Labour Day with modified hours. Customers are advised to check their specific grocery store’s website for store hours.

Use the store locator for grocery stores near you, such Sobeys, Foodland, Farm Boy, FreshCo and Metro, to find out the long weekend holiday hours.

According to its website, Costco locations will be closed on Labour Day Monday.

Walmart has a number of stores that will be open on Labour Day.

Alcohol

  • According to an LCBO spokesperson, LCBO stores are open with regular hours over the weekend, but will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2. Customers are advised to use the store locator at lcbo.com to find specific store hours.
  • Additionally, where local municipalities permit, some LCBO Convenience Outlets may remain open during regular business hours. These are private businesses licensed to sell alcohol in communities without an LCBO nearby.
  • The Beer Store plans to have 128 retail locations open on Monday, Sept. 2. They will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted (check your local Beer Store for hours).
  • A Wine Rack spokesperson confirmed 84 stores will be open (check your local Wine Rack for hours).

Transit

Depending on your community, transit services may be reduced or not operating. For example, GO Transit will be operating on a Saturday schedule. Check your local operator for local service hours or visit gotransit.com/en/see-schedules/holiday-schedules.
