Grand Rapids Woman Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery
A Grand Rapids woman woke up her whole family to have them look at her Powerball ticket after finding out she’d won a $1 million prize!
Lisa Cecil, 66, matched the five white balls in the June 12 drawing to win the big prize: 19-30-31-61-62. She bought her winning ticket at the Family Fare, located at 5241 Northland Drive Northeast in Grand Rapids.
“I play Powerball regularly and I always check my numbers online after the drawing,” said Cecil. “It was after midnight when I checked this ticket, and I saw I had three numbers, then four, and I thought to myself: ‘I think I just won some money!’ When I checked off the fifth number, I was in disbelief.
“I woke everyone in our house up saying: ‘I think I just won $1 million!’ Once my family looked the ticket over and confirmed what I was seeing, I knew it was real.”
Cecil visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. With her winnings, she plans to pay off her home and share with her family.
“I have been playing the lottery for a long time and I never dreamed I would win a prize like this! It’s unbelievable,” said Cecil.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.
The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
