CRIME SCENE: Man charged after gun, pot seized in Whitby

A 41-year-old Clarington man faces numerous charges after a firearm and drugs were seized from a vehicle during a traffic stop in Whitby.

Durham Regional Police say, on Wednesday at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers while out on patrol pulled over a suspicious vehicle in the area of Dundas St. W. and Halls Rd. N.

Police say while speaking with the driver, officers smelled what they allege to be a heavy odour of cannabis inside the vehicle which resulted in the vehicle being searched.

Cops allege a loaded handgun with a prohibited extended magazine was located under the driver’s seat, in addition to a large amount of cannabis in the back of the vehicle.

Lennox Anthony Allen is charged with four firearms and two drug-related charges.

TORONTO COP ACCUSED OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A Toronto Police officer is facing an aggravated assault charge following a probe by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.

On Wednesday, the SIU said there is reasonable grounds to believe the cop committed a criminal offence in relation to the serious injury of a 48-year-old man in January in Toronto.

Cst. Christopher Merritt is charged with one count of aggravated assault.

The SIU say no further comment will be provided about the investigation as the matter is before the courts.

COPS SEEKING MILTON SEX ASSAULT SUSPECT

Police in Halton are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a sexual assault suspect in Milton.

Halton Regional Police say, on Sunday at approximately 11:10 a.m., it was reported that an adult female was sexually assaulted by an unidentified male.

Cops say the victim entered the Indian Creek Trail path, near Main St. and the Sherwood Community Centre, and was walking southbound adjacent to Forbes Ter. when the alleged assault took place.

Authorities say the suspect approached the victim from behind and slapped her buttocks with his hand and then reached into his own pants and began speaking to the female.

The woman continued walking on the trail and the suspect fled northbound towards Main St. when another person was seen approaching from further down the path.

The female was not physically injured as a result of the assault.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build and blond, medium length hair kept just above his shoulders.

He was clean shaven and wearing a green button up short sleeved shirt with blue jeans and brown shoes.

Police are asking that anyone who may have been in the area between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and saw someone matching that description to contact police.

Investigators also ask that anyone who lives in the area or was driving in the area and has cameras to check and see if they caught an image of a suspect matching that description.
