Canadians will need to buy this electronic travel document to visit the U.K. starting in January 2025 – NOW Toronto

Starting in January, Canadians will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to the U.K.

Canadians travelling to or transiting through the U.K on or after Jan. 8 2025 can apply for ETAs as of Nov. 27.

An ETA is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals.

According to the government of Canada’s website, once the rule comes into effect, Canadians must travel on the passport used for their ETA application, and the ETA is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires.

U.K citizens arriving to Canada from the U.K. have been required to provide an ETA since 2016.

An ETA is only required when arriving by air, and does not permit work.

The U.K government’s website says it costs £10 to apply for an ETA and that everyone travelling needs one, including babies and children.
