BLUES TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS IN OTTAWA – University of Toronto Athletics

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team picked up two road wins over the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 6-4 and 11-4, on Saturday, September 28.
 

Toronto 6, Ottawa 4

 
The Blues got on the board in the first inning after Meijin Patil hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Toronto took a 3-1 advantage in the top of the third after Patil tripled, and Alexia Verches singled, each scoring one run.
 
Vanessa Jeffrey earned the win for Varsity Blues. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and three runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Joely Ma appeared in relief for Varsity Blues.
 
Isabella Trakosas and Verches each collected two hits for U of T. Verches and Patil were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Varsity Blues. Varsity Blues had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Shirley Chan and Patil led the team with two free passes each.
 
Toronto 11, Ottawa 4
 
The Blues came out firing, scoring six runs in the first inning. Toronto added two runs in the second, making the score 8-3 in the early goings.
 
Mather earned the win for Varsity Blues. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and four runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one.
 
U of T amassed 12 hits in the game. Rennie led the Blues with three hits in four at bats. Howorth, Schneider, and Rennie each drove in two runs for Toronto. Mather collected two hits for U of T in two at bats.
 
The Blues return to action tomorrow (Sept. 29) as they head to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen’s Gaels. Game times are set for 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.
