Toronto police identify victim, suspect in deadly shooting south of Danforth

The victim of a deadly shooting south of Toronto’s Danforth neighbourhood has been identified and police have charged a suspect with murder.

Officers were called to a home near Jones Avenue and Hunter Street, south of Danforth Avenue, at 7 p.m. Sunday for a shooting.

When officers arrived on scene, police said they found a woman outside of the residence who had been shot. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead in hospital.

In an update Monday, police identified the deceased as 34-year-old Alisha Brooks. She is the city’s 81st homicide victim of 2024.

A suspect was arrested at the scene. Police said 33-year-old Aaron Shea has been charged with second-degree murder.

The suspect and victim were in a relationship, police told CTV News Toronto in an email.

Shea was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Monday.
