Wintry weather is causing some flight delays Thursday afternoon and early evening at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

NAV Canada, the federal agency responsible for air traffic control at Pearson and across the country, said via social media the weather is impacting some flight schedules.

“Our team is moving aircraft safely and as quickly as possible,” NAV Canada officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter), adding travellers should check the status of their flights with their airline.

Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area were hit with their first snowfall of the season on Wednesday.

Several flights into and out of Pearson on Wednesday were delayed, but those minor disruptions were due to weather elsewhere in Canada and the U.S.

Pearson Airport officials said earlier they’ve added to the airport’s fleet of ice- and snow-clearing vehicles and machines this year to keep the runways and aircraft safe over the winter.

“With a full staffing complement, state-of-the-art equipment and investments in new infrastructure, we are ready to handle whatever Mother Nature brings this winter to provide a safe, seamless and smooth travel experience,” Pearson officials said in a recent online update. “Operating Canada’s busiest airport means proactively monitoring forecasts, reacting to changing conditions and being prepared to handle all types of weather 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We’re ready to keep the runways clear so aircraft can land and take off safely during snow events.”
