Macomb Co. woman claims .72M Michigan Lottery prize

A Macomb County woman who won a $1.72 million prize playing Michigan Lotto 47 last month said she “always had a feeling she would win big,” state officials.

The 62-year-old woman chose to take home a one-time lump sum payment of around $1.2 million and remain anonymous. She plans to spend her winnings on a new house and help her family members, according to a Michigan Lottery news release on Monday.

The woman won by matching six winning numbers on Sep. 25: 04-12-25-33-41-47. She purchased her lottery ticket online.

“The power of positive thinking paid off for this lucky player, who won the $1.7 million Lotto 47 jackpot,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said in the release. “Dreaming about life-changing jackpots and how they could impact your life is fun, but it is important to play responsibly. Our online games feature several tools that help promote safe, responsible, play.”

The winner recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim her prize, representatives said.

“I play Lotto 47 online often and I always had a feeling I would win the jackpot one day,” she said in the release. “I was so excited when I saw the email from the Michigan Lottery notifying me of my $1.72 million jackpot win! I called my son and daughter-in-law to tell them the news, but I had a hard time getting the words out because I was so stunned.”

The Macomb woman’s win follows several other large prizes claimed across the state recently.

A two-member lottery club in Kalamazoo won a $1 million Mega Millions jackpot earlier in September. Another Kalamazoo woman took home $2 million in winnings from the Michigan Lottery’s Colossal Cashword instant game.

In August, a Macomb County man claimed a $4.57 million prize from the Lotto 47 game.
