Macomb County man claims $4.57M Michigan Lottery win
A Macomb County man recently struck gold with a $4.57 million Michigan Lottery jackpot, state officials said.
The 52-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, won an Aug. 17 drawing when his online ticket matched the Lotto 47 numbers with 03-08-27-34-40-43, lottery representatives announced in a press release Thursday.
The winner had been playing Lotto 47 for about a year and received email notifications about snagging small prizes before, he said in the release. He assumed he had won another small prize when he got another email about the August drawing.
“When I saw I had won the $4.57 million jackpot, I didn’t believe it was real at first,” he said in the release. “I showed my wife the prize amount and we were both taken aback! It has taken awhile for us to wrap our heads around it.”
The Macomb County man recently claimed his prize as a $3.1 million one-time lump sum payment instead of annual annuities for the full amount at Lottery headquarters.
He plans to donate his winnings to charities, take his family on vacation and save the rest, according to the release.
A Traverse City woman also won big with a $1 million Powerball jackpot this week, officials said on Wednesday.
A Wayne County man also claimed a $1 million prize from the Michigan Lottery’s Gold Multiplier instant game, officials said in late August.
The last Lotto 47 winner before the Macomb County man announced this week was a Wayne County man who won $7.19 million in May. The prize marked Michigan Lottery’s largest online winnings ever, officials said at the time.
