Toronto students receive scholarships, awards


HONOREE — Riley Fisher, left, was presented the 26.2 Award by Toronto Superintendent of Schools Maureen Taggart. The award was established by Toronto alumni Melanie and Scott Owen, former collegiate athletes and avid runners, and presented each year to a senior found to embody the perseverance, dedication and resilience of a marathon runner. TORONTO — Many students were presented scholarships and awards at Toronto High School’s Honors Assembly on May 23.

Superintendent of Schools Maureen Taggart expressed appreciation for the generosity of local businesses, community organizations and citizens who sponsor them each year.

It was announced the following members of the Class of 2024 were to graduate with honors: co-valedictorians Dominic Bouscher and Noah Karaffa; salutatorian Andrea Reeves; Nathan Liddick, Callie Anderson, Ty Suffoletta, Chelsie Daugherty, Hannah Dobbs, Camry Allen and Leah, who rounded out the top 10; Michelle Anderson, Madison Brown, Glenn Nolan Dickinson, Riley Fisher, Megan Fogle, Leah Gibson, Rylee Heaton, Taylor Hill, Scottlynn Littlejohn, Josephine Prayso and Ashton Thomas.

The class’ honor students were Noah Karaffa, Dominic Bouscher, Andrea Reeves, Nathan Liddick, Callie Anderson, Ty Suffoletta, Chelsie Daugherty, Hannah Dobbs, Camryn Allen, Jaxon Handzus, Leah Gibson, Madison Brown, Rylee Heaton, Glenn Nolan Dickinson, Ashton Thomas, Michelle Anderson, Scottlynn Littlejohn, Taylor Hill, Aubrie Bane, Megan Fogle, Jeffrey Fogle, Riley Fisher, Autumn Brown, Gunnar Blood, Nathan Brownfield, Zoe Truax and Brandon Garcia.

The Presidential Award of Academic Excellence was presented to Callie Anderson, Dominic Bouscher, Chelsie Daugherty, Hannah Dobbs, Noah Karaffa, Nathan Liddick, Scottlynn Littlejohn, Andrea Reeves, Ty Suffoletta and Ashton Thomas.

The President’s Education Award for Outstanding Achievement recipients were Camryn Allen, Michelle Anderson, Aubrie Bane, Gunnar Blood, Autumn Brown, Madison Brown, Nathan Brownfield, Blake Close, Glenn Nolan Dickinson, Tanner Ensell, Ryder Espinoza, Riley Fisher, Jeffrey Fogle, Megan Fogle, ty Fogle, Leah Gibson, Brandon Garcia, Rylee Heaton, Taylor Hill, Angelo Porreca, Josephine Prayso, Haley Rudder and Zoe Truax.

National Honor Society members recognized were Noah Karaffa, president; Andrea Reeves, vice president; Callie Anderson, secretary; Dominic Bouscher, treasurer; Camee Allen, historian; Michelle Anderson, representative; Chelsey Daugherty, Hannah Dobbs, Nolan Dickinson, Riley Fisher, Nathan Liddick, Leah Gibson, Ty Suffoletta, Ashton Thomas, Taylor Hill and Scottlynn Littlejohn.

Students earning an associate’s degree from Eastern Gateway Community College were:Callie Anderson, Michelle Anderson, Gunnar Blood, Dominic Bouscher, Blake Close, Chelsie Daugherty, Glenn Nolan Dickinson, Hannah Dobbs, Ryder Espinoza, Riley Fisher, Jeff Fogle, Megan Fogle, Noah Karaffa, Nathan Liddick, Scottlynn Littlejohn, Josephine Prayso, Andrea Reeves, Ty Suffoletta and Ashton Thomas.

Also acknowledged were the following students who also participated in the College Credit Plus program: Tanner Ensell, Sara Wagner, Nathan Brownfield, Haley Rudder, Angelo Porreca, Phillip Rex, Cale Chaisson, Madison Brown, Ty Fogle, Rylee Heaton, Brandon Garcia and Blake Close.

Toronto High School Alumni Scholarships were awarded to Josephine Prayso, Haley Rudder, Tanner Ensell, Cale Chaisson, Riley Fisher, Andrea Reeves, Megan Fogle, Gunnar Blood, Taylor Hill, Ty Fogle, Blake Close and Ty Suffoletta, with Noah Karaffa receiving the THS Alumni Association Foundation Scholarship.

The alumni association also awarded its Alumni Service Award to Melissa Brown, dean of students at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, noting the assistance she’s provided to many students, particularly with their college studies and planning.

The group’s Joseph and Anna Marie Karaffa Award for Excellence was presented to Johnathan Durand. a math teacher at the junior-senior high school, Durand also has coached the junior varsity baseball team and served as adviser to its chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Governor’s Merit Scholarships were presented to Noah Karaffa and Andrea Reeves.

National Federation of High School Awards of Excellence were presented to Hannah Dobbs and Ty Suffoletta.

From the Ohio High School Athletic Association Andrea Reeves and Dominic Bouscher received Scholar-Athlete Awards, Loushuanna received the State Award for Sportsmanship, and Chandler Derrington received the Courageous Student Award.

Receiving Archie Griffin Awards for Sportsmanship through the OHSAA were Ashton Thomas and Dominic Bouscher.

The Joseph and Anna Marie Karaffa Award for Excellence was presented to Johnathan Durand.
