6 suspects wanted following jewelry store robbery, related hit-and-run at Toronto’s Fairview Mall: police

Police said they were called to the shopping centre near Sheppard Avenue and Don Mills Road in North York

Toronto police are searching for six suspects who are wanted in connection with a smash-and-grab style robbery at a jewelry store at Fairview Mall.

Police said they were called to the shopping centre near Sheppard Avenue and Don Mills Road in North York at around 1:15 p.m. for reports of a robbery.

In a news release, Toronto Police Service said that six males wearing masks and gloves attended the jewelry store and took out hammers, which they used to break the glass into the store.

They then allegedly smashed the display cabinets and removed a large quantity of jewelry before exiting the mall and fleeing in a waiting vehicle.

Police said while leaving the mall property, the driver of the vehicle was involved in a collision. That crash knocked down a pole and injured the driver of the other vehicle. They were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the suspects inside the vehicle ran away and got into a second getaway vehicle, they said. That vehicle fled the area, but has since been found with the help of the York Regional Police.

The investigation remains ongoing and TPS is asking anyone with information is asked to contact them 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The robbery marks the latest in a series of smash-and-grab style incidents targeting GTA jewelry stores.

Earlier this month, Toronto police told CP24 that so far in 2024, there had been 43 jewelry store robberies reported to police, compared to just 21 last year.

The investigation into this latest robbery and hit-and-run is ongoing, and police say they don’t have any further updates at this time.
